Caroline School comes out on top with their Junior and Senior badminton program this year making this their best year so far.

For the fourth year in a row, the junior high badminton team is crowned CHAMPIONS for Central Alberta. On the other hand, the senior high badminton team takes home the SILVER at provincials. The Caroline school badminton program has 35 players in junior high and 26 in high school participating.

The junior high program competed in the Divisional tournament in late April. The team left the tournament with 28 medals. Of the medalists, 23 advanced to the CWAJHAA tournament on May 7/8 in Sylvan Lake. At CWAJHAA, the players put forth a team effort to collect 35 wins to be crowned the 1J badminton champions for 2010. Janessa Jorgenson and Michelle Kurney finished 3rd in grade 7 girls doubles, Matt Wesolowsky and Calan Graham finished 3rd in grade 8 boys doubles, and Taylor Michalsky and Sage Lungal finished first in grade 8 girls doubles.

The high school program competed in the AREA tournament in Ponoka in late April and went home with 14 medals. Following the AREA tournament, 10 players advanced to ZONES, and from zones four players advanced to Provincials in Sherwood Park on May 7/8. At Provincials, first year Leonard McTaggart and Siera Michalsky dominated the competition by winning a bronze medal in Junior mixed doubles. In addition, for a third year in a row and their last of high school, Kailey Fauville and Morgan Spooner walked away with a silver medal. Kailey Fauville is looking forward to playing more badminton next year at the Red Deer College.

Both the junior and senior high program is looking forward to come out strong again next year.
