Mission Statement

Condor School is a learning environment that empowers students to succeed academically, physically, creatively, emotionally and socially.

Rules

Respect Self

1.       Be prepared and on time for classes.  Complete assignments and homework.

2.       Wear appropriate clothing. 

3.       Practice self-control. eg. walk, no pushing, no hitting or fighting, no teasing or bullying.

4.       Take care of personal belongings.  eg. lockers and desks.

 

 

Respect Others

1.       Take care of public property and equipment.  Respect the property of others and clean up after yourself.

2.       Obey people in authority – all teachers and school employees.

3.       Do not wear hats inside.

4.       Be kind, helpful, thoughtful, and caring.

5.       Teasing and bullying will not be tolerated.

 

ALL VISITORS MUST SIGN IN AND OUT OF THE SCHOOL AT THE OFFICE.  IF A STUDENT IS BEING PICKED UP THEY MUST BE PAGED FROM THE OFFICE, AND SIGNED OUT AT THE OFFICE.

 

Awards

Awards will be held the morning of the last school day.  Major awards are given for academic achievement, sportsmanship, progress, citizenship, and excellence in language arts.  Certificates are given for high achievement in several areas.

 

Bus Rules

1.       All students are under the immediate authority of the bus driver who enforces divisional bus rules and disciplines students.

2.       Notes are required for bus drivers if you need to have your child ride on a bus other than their regular route, are remaining after school or when picking them up they must have a note or be signed out at the office.

3.       Students may lose bus riding privileges for the following reasons:

§         Being loud and noisy

§         Being impudent or rude

§         Using profane language

§         Vandalizing the bus

§         Failing to sit in the assigned seat

§         Disobedience

§         Being out of the seat while the bus is moving

§         Fighting

 

Counseling

A School District counselor will be available to students one half day per week with the day yet to be determined.  Staff are available on a daily basis to any students who require counseling.  The Family/School Liaison has assigned days at the school where she may meet with students and work with families as needed.  A Rainbows Program is available at the school as well.

Discipline

The school discipline policy.

Problematic Behaviour

Incomplete Assignments – As required by the classroom teacher.

1.       For Division I, a student may be required to miss an in-class activity while they complete unfinished work.

2.       For Division II, a student may be sent to a workstation in the office, work room, or resource room.

3.       If a Division I or II student does not complete the expected work then the Teacher will contact parents and work out an agreed upon schedule for completion.

 

Classroom Disruption, Unruly Behaviour, and Swearing

Step 1    Verbal warning and recording of warning.

Step 2    Verbal warning and a lunchtime detention with work.

Step 3    One-day detention – all three breaks.

Step 4    One to three day in-school suspension with phone call to parents/guardian.

Step 5    Continuing problems result in loss of special privileges (field trips, track meets, sports teams) and possible school suspension.

Step 6    Out of school suspension – up to three days.

·         Steps 4 to 6 all must involve the office.

 

Willful Destruction of Property

Must be provable without a reasonable doubt.

Step 1    Restitution, plus a letter to parents/guardian.

Step 2    Restitution, one-week detention, a phone call to parents/guardian, plus loss of special privileges.

 

Physical Abuse

Must be provable and staff should try to determine aggressor.

1.       In a fighting situation involving a loss of temper in which punches, kicks, pushing, or tripping are displayed, the combatants will be sent to the office.  The Principal will take the details, phone parents/guardian, and assign punishment that is appropriate to each situation (taking into account the number of previous office visits).

2.       The investigating teacher will deal with situations involving students picking on, or bullying others.  This person may:

·         assign guilt and punishment

·         refer the students to the office

 

Monthly Assemblies

Our gymnasium assemblies will be held on the 4th Thursday each month.  The period will start with #5 on the first month and then rotate through to period #7 then start back at 5 again.  During this time recognition is given for “Students of the Month”, birthday celebrants, intramural excellence, and any other activities that occurred during the month.  Draws are held for students with perfect attendance.  Often there are special performances by our students.  Parents are welcome to attend these assemblies.

 

 

Newsletters

The “Condor Connection” is distributed every week to each student.  If you have an item for the newsletter the office must receive it no later than 9 a.m. on the day of the newsletter.  Only non-profit groups, and community events will be advertised.

 

 

Phone

1.       Students are allowed reasonable use of the school phone.  Requests will be made to staff members and will be decided on a merit basis.

2.       Parents are requested to phone for students only during break times if possible.

3.       No student cell phones are allowed for use at school.

 

 

Report Cards

There will be two reporting periods throughout the year and a final one in June.   All grades will receive report cards November 21, 2008, March 20, 2009, and June 26, 2009.  Homeroom teachers will distribute report cards and they may NOT be picked up before those dates.  Final report cards will not be released from the office until after the awards ceremony.  Report cards not picked up will be mailed.

 

Smoke-Free Environment

Our school is a non-smoking area.  We ask that you refrain from smoking if you are at Condor School.  This is in accordance with the Wild Rose School Division #66 Smoke-Free Environment policy.

 

 

 

 

Student Dress

Students are expected to dress appropriately for school.  Students will be asked to change if they are wearing clothing that is deemed inappropriate (explicit t-shirts, clothing with spaghetti straps, “short” shorts/skirts shorter than finger tip length, belly shirts, etc.).  Students in grades 5, 6 & 7 are expected to have a change of clothes for Phys. Ed. Class.  All students must have a pair of inside shoes that are to be kept clean.

Snacks/Lunches

Students may have a snack at breaks.  Lunch break is 15 minutes in length.  Students must remain in classrooms for this time period.  Those who are not finished eating during this time may sit and finish their lunch.  Whatever time necessary will be given but students must be sitting and eating, not up and about the classroom.

Skating Rink

All student skaters require a helmet both for PE classes and free skating.

Skateboard/Scooter/Rollerblade Policy

Students will require helmets to use any of these on our grounds and may participate in these activities only in the designated area.  Wrist, knee and elbow pads are encouraged.

Heelies Shoes

These shoes are not allowed in our school.
