Principal's Message

Welcome to David Thompson High School for the 2009-2010 school year.  A special welcome goes out to the  students and families new to the area!

After an amazing year of professional development at Lindsay Thurber High School as their Career Counsellor, I am very excited about returning to David Thompson in the role of Principal. After serving as a teacher for 17 years at DT with 3 of those as a vice principal, I am extremely honored to be returning in this capacity.

There is a great deal of excitement in the air this year. Our school division has new leadership from Mr. Brian Celli who is our Superintendent. His energy, enthusiasm and passion for education is contagious. The staff at David Thompson are all eagerly anticipating the new school year.

We are excited to have 2 new (returning) teachers at DTHS.

Mrs. Tracy Orr has been hired to work at DTHS this year half time as a teacher/counsellor. She will also be helping with the Health classes and will be co-leading the Student Wellness Advisory Team  with Mrs. Ferris.

Ms. Cheryl McBride has been hired for a full-time position teaching Grade 8/9 Social Studies, Computers, Leadership and Physical Education.  We are excited about her continuing all the great things she started last year.

I would like to encourage all parents, especially those that have not attended a school council meeting in the past, to do so this year.  These meetings are held every second month and all parents are welcome to attend.  Watch the newsletters for the dates and agenda items.  Parent involvement at the school council provides feedback that will lead to school improvement, so please become involved!

It is good to be home.

Mike Horembala

Principal
