Insurance and Indemnification




The School Act of Alberta, Section 60 (1) (b) requires that  the Division keep in force insurance to protect the interests of the Division, its employees, officials, and its school councils in respect of claims for damages arising from death or personal injury, damage to property and damage to property owned by Wild Rose School Division in respect of which the Division has an insurable interest as well as property that the Division has agreed to insure or for which it may otherwise have assumed liability.




1.      Wild Rose School Division shall pay the insurance deductible portion of any judgment or settlement of a claim against an individual covered under its policy(ies) of insurance in those instances where all but the deductible portion of any such judgment of settlement is paid under the insurance coverage held by the School Division.


2.      The Division shall consider reimbursing or indemnifying an employee or official against any losses or expenses which the employee or official incurs as a result of any action brought or judgment obtained against the employee or official arising out of the lawful performance of his duties as a Division official or employee. No reimbursement or indemnification will be considered in respect of acts or omissions outside the course and scope of the employee’s or official’s lawful duties.
