Speaker Heidi Cabay invited students at Drayton Christian School to live a better story through her engaging and inspirational presentation.
Heidi Cabay’s story is one of resiliency, empathy, self-advocacy and connection. Heidi says, “I love to share my story to help inspire others. Domestic violence, family violence, child abuse and homicide took away my voice, my value and my purpose. It left me alone, invisible, unheard, forgotten and frozen. I have been on a journey to create a life that I deserve, and I find healing in sharing the tools that helped me not only survive such horrific trauma, but blessed me with great gifts of compassion, wisdom and hope. I love what I have become!! I choose to live in the moment and I choose to live with love in my heart”.
Students at DCS were challenged to choose love in the face of adversity. As Newton’s Third Law states, for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction; by choosing love, we are able to control our own reaction to life’s difficult circumstances.
One grade 7 student was deeply touched by Heidi’s story, saying "You are so inspiring because no matter what you're going through, there is light. There is always a way out. Thank you for taking the time to tell us that there is light”.
Principal Terri-Lynn Emms says, “Many students deal with chronic stress and have experienced significant trauma. Hearing Heidi's story of resilience has inspired our students to grab hold of hope no matter what they are facing”.
We all have a story - no matter our background, our lives tell a story. When presented with the difficulties and challenges of life, will you choose love? What will your story be?
