Corridor Transportation

The Board heard from the Director of Transportation how the new bus transfer system at Leslieville is working, and review all the steps taken to ensure a smooth transition to the new system.  Answers to the frequently asked questions are posted on the Division and school websites.

2023-2024 WRSD Staff Calendar

1. 2023-24 Calendar - At the February 28, 2023 Board Meeting the WRSD Board gave final approval to the calendar for the next school year. Based on feedback received, a couple of the key changes made were:

• We have moved our start date for teachers to August 29 from August 28 and there would be 4 organizational days to start the year (instead of 3)
• This moves the student start date to after Labour Day long weekend (Sept. 5)
• The calendar maintains 193 teacher days and sets 178 student days for next year.
• These changes also balance the semester for students at 89 days each.

Highway 11 Planning

Representatives from Alberta Transportation joined the meeting to discuss the proposed twinning of highway 11 and how that may affect our corridor schools.  They will be proceeding with open houses this spring in order to get public and stakeholder feedback.  All updates to the twinning plan can be found on the Alberta Transportation website.

Locally Developed Courses

The Board approved the use of Film and Media Arts 15-35 (3-5 Credits) for use in our schools beginning Semester 2 in the 2022/2023 school year.

Out of Country Field Trips

The Rocky Christian School spring break 2023 field trip to Belize was given final approval, and the Frank Maddock High School field trip for the National Student Leadership Summit was given approval in principle.
