Emily Baum Aces Diploma Exams

0

This spring as grade twelve students across the province studied to write some of the most important tests of their lives, one WRSD student was hard at work as she prepared to write her Diplomas. When Emily Baum opened her test results this summer she was excited to find her hard work had paid off with three perfect scores on her diploma exams in Chemistry 30, Physics 30 and Math 30-1.

Ever since she can remember Emily Baum has enjoyed math. “Manipulating and using numbers in problems have always come easily to me,” said Emily. “I always enjoyed starting with a very complex, challenging problem and being able to solve it to a simple solution.”

This love of numbers continued to grow thanks to the amazing teachers she had at Aurora Elementary, HW Pickup Jr High and Frank Maddock High School. “I especially want to thank my Chemistry, Physics and Math teachers, Mrs. Basaraba, Mrs. Hutchinson and Mr. Nickle,” said Emily. “I had these teachers for both 20 and 30, and know that I would not have been able to get perfect scores in the diploma exams without their excellent teaching.”

Emily received early acceptance last October to the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Alberta. She is enjoying her first year as she explores and learns about the many challenging and interesting fields of engineering. Looking back Emily had this to say about her perfect scores, “I want to thank my family for their support and encouragement, especially now that I am at university.”
